Rhett W
Technical Instructor

Rhett was born and raised in Long Beach, California. During college and for a few years following, he worked as a Cast Member at Disneyland. His initial career path was public education, and he worked for a dozen years as a Math teacher and ran a small computer lab. In the mid-nineties, New Horizons hired Rhett on as a computer trainer. One thing led to another, and by 1998, he was doing IT work outside of New Horizons, but still instructing as well. In 2010, New Horizons Learning Group hired him as a full-time instructor.

"I strive to deliver not only technical content in an engaging way, but to provide a foundation for students to truly understand the content. Every student will likely have a work environment that is different from the hands-on environments we provide in the classroom. A key goal, therefore, is to enable my students to connect what they are doing in class with what they see and do outside of the classroom. The best way for that to happen is to give students a fundamental understanding of the tasks, concepts, and workflows that underlie the class content and activities. If one really understands the “how-tos” and “whys” of the course, then they will be able to apply what they learned in class to their specific situation and environment."
