Martin has been a successful technical trainer for nearly two decades. He has trained thousands of students on a variety of Microsoft Server products, including SQL Server, SSIS, SSRS, SSAS, SharePoint BI, PowerShell, Windows Server, IIS, ISA Server, SMS, SCOM, VB Scripting and Exchange Server. He is highly ranked by students and focuses on providing real‐world examples and practical knowledge.
Martin joined New Horizons in 1998 after eight years as a music teacher. He began his expertise with Microsoft Exchange and Windows Server. When Windows Active Directory and Group Policy launched, he focused his time on this new platform, and contributed several chapters to Active Directory Exam study guides published by Syngress Media. Over the next several years, Martin’s main focus was Exchange Server, and he helped many companies design effective migration strategies to the new platform.
In 2003, Martin started to see more of the products he was using implement SQL Server in the background, and decided to expand his horizons. He has never looked back, and currently spends the majority of his time with the SQL Server Business Intelligence platform of products. His greatest current areas of interest focus on PowerPivot, PowerBI and other self-service BI topics.
Outside of the classroom, Martin spends time with his wife and five children, four of whom are adopted.
“I try to give my students a blend of traditional conceptual understanding of topics with real world knowledge. I always try to find the real needs of the students and to customize my training and demonstrations to help them to meet the challenges they are having in the workplace.”
